There was once a clan of Humans who, following the Eternal War, mined out a home for themselves in the mountains of Kel-Nagrand. After several hundred years, the halls of their mountain kingdom became legendary for its power and wealth. At the pinnacle of their realm, as their mining grew, the clan reached a large vein of adamantium ore near a magma flow. Greed causing them to ignore caution, they mined the adamantium, causing a volcanic eruption within the World Mountain.
At the moment of eruption, the adamantium vein they’d found, and a magmous, living stone beneath it, shattered into a million molten shards. Those who were hit with the shards of living stone, and survived, became Stoneborn in that moment. The living stone embedded itself deep into their bodies, forever altering them.
Now truly one with the mountain, Stoneborn eat rock, earth, and sometimes Gemstones in place of what would be regular nutrition for other Races. Over their lifetime, Stoneborn become what they eat. Depending upon the types of minerals and rocks consumed, a Stoneborn’s body becomes any kind of organic rock, Gemstone, or earth. Many live in the hills, or especially the ancient mountain kingdom of Kel-Nagrand, for access to plentiful food.
